School Meals

Our kitchen team create a great menu of fresh, home-cooked and nutritionally balanced meals every day.

Meals should be booked and paid for using the School Gateway app. You can choose, alongside your child, what they would like to eat and top up your school meal balance whenever it is convenient for you.  The cost of school meals is £2.85 per day. (*£3 from September 2026)

It is extremely important that you book your child's meals in advance, so that learning time is not lost in the mornings.

Eligibility from September 2026

From September 2026, all children whose households receive Universal Credit will get a free school meal. However, there are now two different types of free school meal eligibility. The type your child falls into depends on your household income and the benefits you receive.

Targeted Free School Meals

Your child qualifies for targeted FSM if your household meets any of the following:

  • You receive Universal Credit and your annual household earnings are £7,400 or less

  • You receive support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • You receive Income‑related Employment and Support Allowance

  • You receive the guarantee element of Pension Credit

  • Your family meets criteria for no recourse to public funds (NRPF)

Children in this group:

  • Get free school meals

  • Help the school receive pupil premium and other funding

  • Are counted in the Ever 6 FSM group (used for funding and accountability)

Expanded Free School Meals

Your child qualifies for expanded FSM if:

  • Your household receives Universal Credit, and

  • Your annual household earnings are more than £7,400

Children in this group:

  • Get free school meals

  • Do not generate pupil premium or disadvantage funding

Annual Eligibility Checks

Schools and local authorities will carry out yearly checks to make sure children still qualify for free school meals.

These re-checks confirm:

  • That your child continues to meet the eligibility criteria

  • Whether they fall under targeted FSM or expanded FSM

Re-checks will take place before each new school year, starting in 2026, so that all eligible pupils are ready to receive their free meals from the autumn term.
