Autumn 1
Our Learning in Autumn 1
Here are some pictures of our learning in Autumn 1
What a great start to Year 3!
As historians, we are learning about the Stone Age. We have started to learn about how they lived, sourced food and shelter and used tools and weapons. We have looked at places such as Skara Brae and Stonehenge and will investigate how Stone Age people solved problems: How did they move the stones?
Linked to this, in Science we are learning about rocks and soils by comparing and classifying them. We will also learn about fossils and how they are formed by creating our own 'fossils'.
Also linked to this, in Geography we will continue the rock theme by looking at gems, crystals and mining. We will use our map skills to learn more about Scotland and the gems that have been found there. We will visit the Blue John Cavern in Hope Valley where we will experience their glistening caves.
In Design Technology we are designing and making a soil sieve. We have seen how these are used in our school garden to separate the soil from rocks and sticks. We will be sawing wood, gluing joins and wrapping wire to create a mesh.
In Art, we drawing in our sketchbooks, focusing on tone. We have drawn hands and shaded them by using hatching and cross-hatching. We will move onto stippling techniques.
Year 3 music lessons provide a range of opportunities rotated throughout the year. Currently, 3AN are part of the Manchester Sing training, 3SB are exploring different rhythms on instruments and 3SH are doing African drumming.
In PE, we are learning how to play tennis. Pupils have loved practising their skills and will eventually complete a tennis rally.
In Computing, we have been developing our word processing skills, using the internet to carry out research and creating digital art pictures.
We have been learning about Spanish speaking countries and learning different greetings in Spanish.
In PSHE, we have discussed online safety and the importance of healthy relationships.
As philosophers, in our P4C lesson, we have discussed many big question about ourselves and the environment.
In RE, we are looking into what do people in different religions believe about God.
