Spring 2
Our Learning in Spring 2
This half term we have been enjoying so many interesting lessons. In PE, we have all been playing cricket. This has involved learning how to hold and control a cricket bat and how to field leading to a cricket contest.
We are deepening our understanding by spending a second half term learning about Ancient Egypt. We had an extra-ordinary Ancient Egyptian workshop where we learned about the everyday life of Ancient Egyptians and understood the purpose of mummification.
In geography, we have been learning about rivers. We have found out about the water cycle, different bodies of water and been able to locate different rivers both in the UK and globally. We had a workshop from the Canals and Rivers Trust where we learnt about the features of a river and then we added human features leading to a discussion about how humans use rivers.
We have linked this to art by painting reflection and moving water. We are excited about creating our final landscape painting. Our trip to Salford Quays was interesting because we sketched moving water by following the lines in the water created by the wind.
As musicians, some of us used notation to perform different pieces. 3SB have begun African drumming and have learnt how to create different sound by hitting the drums in particular ways. 3AN and 3SH have been learning to sing with increased control and accuracy and have been understanding what scat music is.
In maths, we are working with length. We have been comparing, adding and subtracting length as well as finding the perimeter. We have also solved problems involving length. We have also worked with fractions by finding fractions of objects and amounts, making a whole and understanding fractions as numbers.
As writers, we have been writing and reading books that are linked to the sea. We are writing a report ensuring that we are building on existing skills and knowledge but also demonstrating that we understand the organisational features of a report.
Animals including humans is our science topic for this half term. We will be looking at the skeleton of humans and comparing that to other animals as well as understanding the nutrition they both require.
Our P4C lessons continue to bring interesting questions and discussions. We use the principles of the 4cs that are to be caring, critical, creative and collaborative to carry out deep philosophical enquiries.
In PSHE, we have found out about law and order in our country and discussed the role of MPs in flood defences.
In design technology, we are designing, building and evaluating our own water wells. This will include careful measuring of wood, sawing, gluing and making a pulley.
